The Trove interface includes a toolbar near the top of the screen, and the main display region, which occupies the rest of the interface.
There are nine items listed on the toolbar. These are, from left to right in the default display:
The main display region of the Trove interface lists the folders, sub-folders and documents in the current library, and displays the contents of a selected document.
Click one of the listed folders or sub-folders to open it and display a list of the documents or sub-folders within it. If there is only one document in a folder or sub-folder, Trove displays that document automatically when you open the folder.
Click the item in the toolbar to return to the initial view that shows all the folders in the current library.
Trove allows you to search for words and phrases within the documents in an open library. The main display region of the Trove interface then lists only those folders that contain occurrences of the search text. Click a folder to see the documents or sub-folders within it. Click a document to open it.
An open document identifies the number of occurrences of the search text within each section, and shows to the left of the document's title the total number of occurrences of the search text in the document.
Click the title of a section in the document to open that section. You can then click the navigation items , , and in the toolbar to move among occurrences of the search text in the document. Each occurrence of the search text has a double-chevron character on either side, which you can also use to move to the previous or the next occurrence of the text.
Click the item in the toolbar to clear the current search text. You must do this before you can display all the folders in the library, or before you type some new search text for Trove to find.
Trove allows you to conduct advanced searches by using wildcards and wildwords. You can also conduct proximity searches and use the logical operators 'AND' and 'OR'.
Wildcard searches allow you to expand the search criteria by adding an asterisk character '*' in an appropriate location. For example:
Wildword searches allow you to search for occurrences of two words when there may be another word between them. For example:
Proximity searches allow you to search for occurrences where one word appears close to the second word in a library. It does not matter in which order the words occur. To use this feature, you must must include the word 'NEAR' in the field.
For example, the search text 'quality NEAR system' will search for all occurrences of the words 'quality' and 'system' that are near to each other in the library.
Notes:
The logical operators AND and OR allow you to search for occurrences of two words in the same topic. For example:
