Actions for ‘Other Stakeholders’

National Children’s Home (NCH)

·

NCH Western Isles Project recognises the importance of raising young people’s awareness of sexual health issues. NCH promote and advocate for the rights of young people to ensure that they are given every opportunity to make informed choices and decisions.

·

Work in partnership to provide sexual health and relationship awareness for young people.

·

Recognise sexual health as an important part of a young person’s holistic health.

·

Provide staff training on sexual health issues.

·

Include sexual health as a topic to be addressed within NCH strategic business plan.

·

Provide young people with the opportunity to receive sexual health and relationship information on a one-to-one basis and also through group work sessions.

·

Provide sexual health and relationship education programmes especially designed to address issues faced by young males and vulnerable young people.

Northern Constabulary

·

Improve facilities for victims of crime to provide examination and interview suite in Western Isles.

·

Establish facilities in Western Isles to alleviate the current need for victims to leave island for examination.

·

Work with Rape Crisis and Women’s Aid to provide service to victims in Barra and the Uists.

·

Establish facilities for victims of sexual offences in Barra and the Uists.

·

Increase awareness of drug-assisted sexual assault (alcohol and drugs) and its occurrence in the Western Isles.

·

Improve the knowledge of people in the Western Isles of sexual health and drug/alcohol related offences and provide practical information for potential victims.

·

Increase awareness of child protection guidelines and protocols for inter-agency working.

·

Provide improved service to victims of crimes related to sexual health.

·

Increase information available to victims of crime regarding issues such as STIs.

Domestic Abuse Forum and Women’s Aid

·

Increase awareness of the misuse of power and control in relationships in young people.

·

Provide educational drama project addressing domestic abuse issues for 5th & 6th year pupils at the four main secondary schools in the Western Isles.

·

Increase the knowledge and awareness of young people about the misuse of power and control in relationships. Encourage discussion of issues around abuse for young people living with abuse/violence, and provide information on local support networks.

·

Provide schools and youth settings (where possible) with appropriate resources to address gender inequalities that promote self-esteem and respect in relationships.

·

In partnership with other agencies, research materials and resources that can be used to compliment existing curriculum resources that will cover the wider issues of respect, self-esteem and gender inequalities in relationships.

·

Standardise and increase the range of materials used in schools and youth settings throughout the Western Isles, in line with Scottish Executive initiatives.

·

Raise awareness in all agencies about the effects and consequences of misuse of power and control in relationships.

·

The Western Isles Training Consortia will provide a rolling programme of domestic abuse training for all agencies that will incorporate the wider issues of violence and abuse against women. This will challenge attitudes towards domestic abuse with particular regard to male and female roles and wider gender issues.

·

Increase the ability of agencies and individuals working in this field to make the required changes to ensure that the best possible service is provided to anyone affected by domestic abuse, throughout the Western Isles.  

·

Assist agencies to be equipped with the knowledge, skills and understanding of domestic abuse and the wider issues of violence against women in order to provide improved service and access to services to women, children and young people in the Western Isles.

·

Increase inter-agency working to develop relevant policies and procedures required to address domestic abuse issues.

Western Isles Rape Crisis Service

·

Provide counselling service to victims of rape and sexual abuse.

·

Establish rape crisis centres in Barra and Benbecula in order to extend service provision to women living in the more remote island communities.

·

Establish rape crisis phone helpline.

·

Provide rape crisis training and awareness to partner agencies.

·

Work in partnership with relevant agencies to develop strategic policies and protocols aimed at improving service delivery for victims and their families.
