Actions for Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CnES)

CnES

·

Training on ‘providing sexual health information’ to be sourced and provided to relevant Comhairle staff in partnership with NHS Western Isles.

·

Young Scot booklets to be circulated to all young people throughout the Outer Hebrides.

·

Training on ‘appropriate signposting for sexual health’ to be sourced and provided to relevant Comhairle staff in partnership with NHS Western Isles.

·

The Outer Hebrides Children’s Services Plan to refer to the key links within the local sexual health strategy.

·

Local Authority premises, excluding schools, will be available for use by NHS Western Isles for the provision of services if required.

Community Planning Partnership

·

Integrate key targets from the Sexual Health strategy into the Outer Hebrides Community Wellbeing Plan (JHIP).

·

Develop local guidelines in collaboration with partners for relevant staff.

Social Work

·

Young people looked after by the Local Authority to have access to support and information regarding their sexual health and development.

·

Develop wide ranging information packs for vulnerable adults in the community which will include sexual health information with easy to understand literature.

·

Training to be provided on personal safety to vulnerable adults.

Education

·

Support the development of Personal and Social Education (PSE) for people with a learning disability in schools and college.

·

Ensure the delivery of PSE to all excluded young people.

·

Ensure the ongoing refinement of the 5-14 and 15-18 PSE Guidelines for schools.

·

Review the potential use of teaching material which places sexual health within a multi-cultural and religious framework.

·

All parents/guardians to be consulted on PSE through their local school.

·

All schools within the Outer Hebrides to offer multi-agency consultation on PSE.

·

All schools to demonstrate that they are providing equitable access to information regarding sexual health.

·

Ensure that young people have access to information and are appropriately signposted.

·

Source appropriate training courses and resources to enable the use of appropriate teaching methods for young people with a learning disability.

Community Education

·

All computers funded by Dialogue Youth which are based in community centres will have the Young Scot webpage as the homepage.

·

Develop health and lifestyle information packs for community centres throughout the Outer Hebrides.

·

National sexual health newsletters and information to be circulated to relevant staff.

·

Sexual health information to be made available through the Learning Shop, Skill Seekers and Get Ready for Work programmes.

·

Young people looked after by the Local Authority to have access to support and information regarding their sexual health and development.

·

Training on personal safety to be provided through a programme of events to vulnerable adults.

·

Develop wide-ranging information packs for vulnerable adults in the community, which will include sexual health information with easy to understand literature.

Actions for ‘Other Stakeholders’

National Children’s Home (NCH)

·

NCH Western Isles Project recognises the importance of raising young people’s awareness of sexual health issues. NCH promote and advocate for the rights of young people to ensure that they are given every opportunity to make informed choices and decisions.

·

Work in partnership to provide sexual health and relationship awareness for young people.

·

Recognise sexual health as an important part of a young person’s holistic health.

·

Provide staff training on sexual health issues.

·

Include sexual health as a topic to be addressed within NCH strategic business plan.

·

Provide young people with the opportunity to receive sexual health and relationship information on a one-to-one basis and also through group work sessions.

·

Provide sexual health and relationship education programmes especially designed to address issues faced by young males and vulnerable young people.
